The Silence of Preparation
If you visit our social media platforms, it looks like we disappeared off the face of the earth a few months ago and never said anything to our followers and for that, we want to begin by apologizing. We know that many have been looking forward to and excited about this podcast project and we should have done a better job at communicating.
Nevertheless, this post serves as a brief look into what has been going on and what we’re going to be working on for the future and we hope you stay engaged and share our podcast with anyone who would listen. Additionally, I’d like to take some time to break down why we decided to start this podcast and various other smaller projects so that you, the listener (or reader), could enjoy.
THE CONFESSIONAL TACO
The Confessional Taco project is a result of two occurrences in the life of Serge and I (Marco). First, the conversation surrounding Hispanics and the local church has been an on-going discussion among us, friends in ministry, and throughout our education for a little over a decade. There is a lot to unpack when it comes to Hispanic ethnicities and the American church and this podcast serves as an outlet and platform to process various topics pertaining to the discussions we’ve had on Hispanic culture, the history of the church, the borderlands, and the state of the American church.
Secondly, after a lot of coffee followed by some Topo Chicos, Serge and I began throwing ideas around about a project that would mean much to us and through the power of carbonated caffeine, we felt that a podcast would serve as the best medium for us creatively, artistically, and conversationally.
WHERE WE’VE BEEN
If we’re honest, I think we started this project with a great deal of ambition and not a lot of time or experience. For us, we desire to provide quality audio and content and at times, to a fault, we can be perfectionists. As we began to develop introductions and record a couple of episodes, we ran into some technical difficulties around the time that our season was about to skyrocket.
Serge is an educator and his school year begins before the summer ends and I (Marco) serve as a local pastor at Storehouse Community Church and mid-August through October tends to be one of our busiest and most productive seasons. I say all of that because we started this project just a few weeks before August and realized we couldn’t commit to the time and energy necessary to pull off what we wanted.
So, we pulled back from everything and went back to the whiteboard. And now, with the help of our friend Miah, who we’re sure you’ll meet, our audio and web content is going to be up to date, engineered for quality, and we’re looking to record several episodes during the Thanksgiving break!
In short, thank y’all for your continued patience!
THE NEW YEAR | 2020
As we record episodes during the Thanksgiving break, our hope is to spend the rest of the year editing and mastering our audio, updating our website, and prepping a few more projects that we wish to release in 2020. The goal of recording a good deal of episodes in November is to have at least two months worth of consistent audio content for you to enjoy starting in January.
Additionally, Serge is working on a project called “Los Diez” where he, along with other artists, essentially re-creates certain Psalms from the Bible in spoken word fashion with a few creative twists. We’re hoping that this becomes a resource that brings you encouragement during times of meditation and devotion.
We are still on schedule for having a few guests on our podcast and overall we’re very excited about The Confessional Taco. It’s a fun project where we get to invite you into an ongoing conversation on all things confessional, cultural, and hyphenated.
